VentureShield (Venturetape Corp) film was 3M’s leading competitor in the paint protection film market for decades. A more optically clear and better abrasion resistant film without the orange peel pattern in it like 3M Scotchgard has. The company, Venturetape, was bought by 3M in the Fall of 2007. With Venturetape producing the clearest and strongest paint film and 3M known for their adhesives, combining the 2 qualities gives you one of the best paint protection film on the market.

During Nissan and Mercedes testing, the leading competitors’ film was punctured with a nine-pound probe. VentureShield® was not punctured until 20 pounds of pressure was applied. Thus, the film is over 100 percent more abrasive resistant, meaning that your vehicle will not sustain paint damage. 3M VentureShield Ultra is distinctly smoother, clearer and 2x stronger than other brands and in some cases thicker as well for better protection.

With many brands having issues with orange peel, lift lines, and stretch marks; Suntek`s revolutionary proprietary adhesive allows it to be industry`s best film to install. The film itself has a top coat coating that allows minor scratches to heal over time or simply by applying heat. SunTek is excited to announce that we have expanded our paint protection portfolio with the release of our new product, PPF Ultra. When selecting a specialized service provider it is important to ensure the product and application process is completed to an exceptional high standard and care. 3M Certified installation is rare and the quality will easily separate us from the rest.

Over the years professionally installing paint protection films, we’ve seen several hack jobs and heard plenty of claims of “being the best.” Do your homework and ask to see their work. This step cannot be overlooked! Current model cars should be done using computer cut kits and not custom cut by a knife potentially cutting into the paint. Ask to see their work, ensure they’re using the right products, software, and installation techniques.

Are their installers trained and 3M Certified? 3M Certification requires a lot of time and funding in which most companies do not see the value of being certified as most consumers overlook qualifications and base their decision on price. As the saying goes “What you pay is what you get”

Many shops may offer the product but a lot of them do not have the proper training or are 3M Certified. If they are, they usually have less than a year or two with experience. Dealerships and other shops commonly hirer students without training to work on your vehicle. Many customers fail to notice and don’t know what to look for when seeking a facility to apply the paint protection film treatment and are left with cut marks or imperfections in the application.

In order for our installers to work on any customer vehicle(s) they must achieve their own 3M Certification. Each one of our installers is professionally trained at a 3M Training Facility over a 7 day course. Once completed and after 100 installs each of our installers are then individually certified by the Canada’s 3M Representative for their approval.

How long has their company been established?

With our industry getting more and more saturated, there are over a dozen new shops opening every year or recently picked up 3M paint protection film service. Although some shops may market themselves very well and have a good reputation, their experience with the film can be revealed in the workmanship.

Are the installers experienced? If so, how long? Here at Clear Choice Auto, our installers have been specializing in paint protection for over 18 years. We specifically specialize in automotive films. As you search around many Detail shops are offering this service, however, Detail shops specialize in detailing and recently started to offer the 3M service at competitive prices with little experience, fooling customers by their company’s presence.

Even though some companies may have been around for many years, the experience with installing the film may be very shy of 1-3 years. Our market has been saturated with a lot of body shops, auto dealers and detail shops who only have a few installs under their belt yet been in business for over 20 years+. Last thing you’d want is an installer cutting through into your paint. Here at Clear Choice Auto, all our patterns are lazer cut to fit your specific year, make and model.

There are lots of installers to choose from but a lot of them don’t have training, are not certified and are using poorly designed kits. We’ve seen plenty of brand new and used vehicles with cut lines right through the paint as other installers and dealerships are using a knife to install the film, even with computer cut kits. Don’t make the same mistake other customers have and be careful when looking for an installer as most installers are notoriously known to cut into the paint. Be confident you’re getting a professional knifeless 3M certified installation.

What brands of films are they using and why?

There’s shops who may sway customers into their line of films but be careful, there’s a lot of knock off films and rebranded products on the market. Make sure you get what you paid for!

We’re also recognized as industry leaders and are able to provide our customers with the Manufacturer’s warranty and not some “in-house” warranty. How do they install their films, custom cut or computer cut?

When installers are custom cutting film on the vehicle, there’s always the potential of the knife cutting into the paint. The film is very thin and when installers are using an exacto knife, no matter how many years experience, there’s always that chance the blade will cut right through down into the paint.

Here at Clear Choice Auto, we utilize the latest laser guided plotters by Graphtec to cut all our films. Custom cut (hand cut) coverage’s are not recommended at Clear Choice Auto and will require a waiver upon customers request. We also have a 7 year experienced CAD designer in-house to design any custom coverage to ensure a knife is not used on your paint.

Caring for paint protection films, the rule of thumb is to steer clear of any products with petroleum distillates (like kerosene, naphtha, and toluene). Unfortunately, these are common in many of today’s synthetic paint waxes and sealants available in retail stores. Petroleum distillates can ruin the film, dry out the film, open the pores and eventually turn it into a big “dirt sponge.” This is often the cause of yellowed paint protection films.

To make sure that you do not have any issues, stick with a purpose made product or a natural wax, like carnauba. If you’re unsure of which products to use please ask our installers or refer to your warranty card. We also offer care products specifically designed to treat the films we offer as well. Why is it needed now? My Dad’s car didn’t need it.

Paints are different now than 20 years ago, and they are applied differently. Many of the environmentally unfriendly ingredients, such as lead, have been removed. Unfortunately, these ingredients are also what made paint more durable. Also, paints are applied much thinner now than in years past, being applied by computers. While this allows for greater initial quality, the thinner paint is far less durable.

Chrome-plated metal parts have disappeared. Where bright trim is used, it is always electro-plated plastic nowadays, which is vulnerable to stone chip damage and bubbling from heat, air and moisture.

Headlights, formerly made of heavy durable glass, are almost universally made of polycarbonate plastic. While they are highly impact resistant, these lenses still get pitted up, scratched, hazed and stained by bug acids from everyday driving.
